February 18, 2014 – When Kurt Zumwalt and Paul Gerdes decided to begin a new business venture a decade ago, they had two goals in mind: (1) build a customer-focused business model for anesthesia practice management, and (2) create long-term partnerships with health care organizations by boosting operational efficiency, reducing costs and improving quality. With that, they brought a vision to life, establishing Clinical Colleagues, Inc. The company celebrates its 10 year anniversary in 2014.
“I wanted to use my earlier career experiences to build something different; a model that could alleviate the deficiencies I saw in so many health care organizations, and that could work for community hospitals across the country, especially in those areas that are sometimes difficult to recruit high-quality anesthesia providers for,” said Zumwalt, Managing Partner for Clinical Colleagues, Inc. “To say we have exceeded our goals is an understatement. We met our 10 year goals at the five year point. It proves we are doing a lot of things right.”
Clinical Colleagues, Inc., or CCI, is a national provider of anesthesia practice management services. The company specializes in building and managing unique teams of anesthesia providers to meet the individual goals of each health system, hospital and surgery center. While some partnerships are focused on creating the right mix of clinical providers with strong department leadership, others are geared toward maximizing operational efficiency, streamlining scheduling protocols, reducing costs, improving reimbursement or a combination of factors that collectively, can optimize the business aspects of a hospital’s anesthesia service line.
“Over the years, we have helped many hospitals transform their anesthesia departments,” said Gerdes, Managing Partner. “Excellent clinical care is the basic expectation for all anesthesia groups. CCI’s approach is unique in that we truly work as a business partner with each hospital, maintaining a constant focus on the ‘big picture’ goals of the organization. We look at it from every angle and develop a customized solution for each hospital we work with.”
Since its establishment in 2004, Clinical Colleagues has grown to serve health systems, hospitals and surgery centers in 11 states from coast to coast. The company partners with more than 150 anesthesiologists and anesthetists who provide exceptional care for more than 53,000 patients annually.
